Large country estate

South-East England

Having seen all other efforts to resolve the severe waterlogging plaguing a historic Norfolk estate, the owner of the land sought the substantial expertise of Ruskins – the UK’s leading authority in soil health regeneration since 1986 to undertake trusted and effective soil aeration and decompaction techniques.

Challenges

Waterlogging can present a significant challenge, particularly for mature tree populations, as seen at this estate. Key issues included:

1. Soil compaction

This reduces the gaseous exchange from the roots and limits the moisture reaching them.

2. Root development

This is restricted by compacted soil, which reduces the water holding capacity.

3.Plant health

Soil compaction is a leading factor in the declining health of plants.

Solution

To restore the landscape and alleviate waterlogging, we implemented a multi-faceted approach:

Deep probe compaction

This relieved compaction of the soil to a depth of 150cm and ensured the fissures up to the surface were kept open.

VOGT Geo Injectors

The use of these innovation systems saw an infusion of air and zeolites (micro-porous habitats for microbes), injected into the soil to ensure the roots were receiving the nutrients and oxygen they need for optimal growth while improving plant vitality and soil health.

Aeration

This technique supported the area’s plants and improved drainage while creating an improved environment for soil biology to inhabit and work.

“I must say that the work you do is fantastic and your staff have been extremely helpful.. If I get the opportunity to get another job like this, Ruskins will be my first and only choice, I also intend to make recommendations of Ruskins to other landscape companies. ”
