Redrow

Waterlooville, Hampshire

Requiring the safe, trusted and fast transportation of 1,200 trees as part of a major 3,200 home development project in Waterlooville, Hampshire, UK housebuilders Redrow Homes sought the unrivalled expertise of the UK’s leading authority on tree health and transplantation - Ruskins.

Challenges

1. Number and variety of trees

Relocating 1,200 trees of varying sizes to the new shelter belt.

2. Time pressure

Clearance came late in the planting season, requiring swift action

3. Aftercare

The dense planting of the shelter belt required tailored aftercare to ensure the trees thrived in their new environment.

Solution

To cost-effectively transplant the trees up to five metres in height, we deployed our specialist fleet of tree spades. In this instance, we used 2.16m, 1.6m and 1.1m diameter spades on the larger trees, while rootballing the smaller varieties.

Successful transplantation

Our fleet of tree spades enabled 1,200 trees to be successfully relocated.

Trees well established

After eight years, 99.5% of the transplanted trees were successfully established and thriving.

Building work completed

With the shelter belt transplanted, Redrow Homes was able to proceed and complete the second, and third, phases of the development.
