Help your trees in this hot weather
/Trees in temperate zones (ours), cool themselves down like us by sweating (transpiring). They are trying to create a cool zone around the canopy akin to a ready brek glow.
So after a very very dry April and May and now are very hot and dry spring, they are having to find more moisture than normal to cool down. When this is unlikely to be much around.
This is why watering of trees should increase when the temperature increases. It is highly unlikely that a tree will be overwatered in summer (if in the ground).
If there is a newly planted tree outside your house, please water that as well.
If you have plants in pots, move them into the shade if you can.
When stressed their natural loss of leaves when they become inefficient is increased. Leaves on the ground can be visible. This is the tree responding to the heat and lack of moisture.
If a branch or tree becomes denuded of leaves, check the cambium to see if the tree has lost its leaves or had died back to a size it can support.
Within this blog there are plenty of other ways that trees can be helped.
